Policy Statement Number: ENV-POL-001

Version: 1.0
Effective Date: 29 May 2025

1. OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

UK Customs Ltd is committed to achieving and promoting environmental best practice in all aspects of our operations. As a digital-first customs brokerage, we recognise that our most significant environmental impact lies in our energy consumption and our influence over the supply chains we facilitate. We are dedicated to minimising our carbon footprint, preventing pollution, and complying with all relevant environmental legislation.

We view environmental responsibility not as an obligation, but as an integral component of our professional service and long-term business sustainability.

2. COMPLIANCE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL LAW

We are committed to full compliance with all applicable UK environmental legislation, regulations, and codes of practice, including but not limited to:

  • The Climate Change Act 2008 (as amended), including the commitment to Net Zero by 2050.
  • The Environment Act 2021.
  • The UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS).
  • The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011.

3. OUR DIGITAL-FIRST ENVIRONMENTAL OBJECTIVES

Our primary environmental strategy is rooted in our core business model as a digital service provider. Our key objectives are:

A. Paperless Operations & Electronic Documentation:

  • 100% Digital Service Delivery: We mandate the use of electronic communications and documentation for all client interactions, customs declarations (e.g., submission via HMRC’s Customs Declaration Service), and internal administrative processes.
  • Cloud-Based Data Management: We utilise secure, UK-based cloud servers to store all client and operational data, eliminating the need for physical document storage, reducing energy consumption from on-site servers, and leveraging the energy efficiency of large-scale data centres.
  • Supplier Engagement: We preferentially select suppliers and partners who demonstrate a commitment to digital processes and environmental responsibility, and we encourage our clients to adopt electronic documentation.

B. Resource Efficiency & Waste Minimisation:

  • Energy Management: We will monitor and seek to reduce energy consumption in our office premises through the use of energy-efficient lighting and equipment, and by encouraging responsible energy use among staff.
  • Sustainable Procurement: Where physical goods are necessary (e.g., office supplies), we will prioritise products with high recycled content, are recyclable, and are from sustainable sources.
  • Waste Hierarchy: We adhere to the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. We will minimise waste generation and ensure the proper segregation and recycling of any waste produced in our office.

C. Carbon Management & Net Zero Ambition:

  • Remote Operations: We support and facilitate remote and hybrid working models to reduce emissions from employee commuting.
  • Business Travel: We will minimise non-essential business travel. Where travel is necessary, we will prioritise virtual meetings or public transport.
  • Carbon Footprint Assessment: We commit to conducting an annual review of our operational carbon footprint to identify key areas for improvement and track our progress towards our environmental goals.

4. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directors: Are responsible for the overall implementation of this policy, providing necessary resources, and ensuring its integration into our strategic objectives.
  • The Data Protection & Operations Manager: Will oversee the day-to-day implementation of this policy, including monitoring performance against objectives and promoting environmental awareness.
  • All Employees: Are responsible for understanding and adhering to this policy in their daily work activities and for contributing ideas for further environmental improvement.

5. COMMUNICATION AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

This policy is communicated to all employees, contractors, and major partners. It is made publicly available on our website to demonstrate our commitment.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our environmental performance. This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure its ongoing suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness, and to align with evolving best practices and technological advancements.
